Browlift

Who is a candidate?
Aging, gravity and muscle overactivity can lead to drooping and creasing of the forehead and eyebrows. This can also contribute to excess skin in the upper eyelids. A browlift can address these problems in both men and women. The surgery can be combined with other procedures designed to rejuvenate the mid- and lower face (eyelid lift, mid and lower face).

Browlift

How is a browlift performed?
A “standard” browlift is done through an incision across the top of the scalp, behind the hairline. The frown muscles are modified and the forehead skin is tightened to lift the brows and smooth the forehead, creating a more youthful appearance.

An “endoscopic” browlift is done through several small incisions behind the hairline. A tiny video camera is placed through one of the incisions and special instruments are used to lift the brow without the need for the longer incision of the standard browlift. Dr. Hynes will discuss which method would be best in your particular case.

The surgery is performed under a general anaesthetic and an overnight stay is not required unless additional procedures are being done at the same time. The surgery takes approximately 1½ to two hours.

What is the recovery period like?
You will be up and about immediately after surgery. Swelling, bruising and discomfort after surgery are normal for a few days. Dr. Hynes will prescribe pain medication for you, as well as antibiotics to minimize the chances of infection. You will be able to shower within a few days. The stitches or staples are removed in the office approximately 10 days after surgery.

Depending on your type of work, you may return within seven to 14 days following surgery. Although the skin will be healed within a week or so, it will be three or four weeks until full activities can be resumed (i.e., sports or heavy lifting).

What are the risks?
All surgery carries certain risks and a browlift is no exception. These include bleeding, infection and temporary skin numbness. Minor, localized hair loss can occur, but this is usually temporary and easy to conceal. Dr. Hynes will review all the risks of the surgery with you in detail during your cosmetic consultation.
